The Italian American Bank Building
This fine building with its grand facades opened as the Italian American Bank in 1923. The Bank was founded by Andrea Sbarbaro, to serve the Italian community of North Beach. Eventually, the Bank was absorbed into the Bank of Italy, which had been founded by another great San Franciscan, A.P. Giannini, which subsequently was renamed as the Bank of America. This Bank of America branch at Columbus and Broadway served the community for many decades until the 1980’s.
In the 1990’s the use of the building was operated as a “Carl’s Jnr” until 2007, when it became the beloved Italian restaurant “E Tutto Quo”, which served until 2020. After a few years of refurbishment, the building is back to life, serving the people of North Beach and beyond, as the Long Weekend.
