Apagón: A Night with 2+2=5? and Fichu - The Light of Havana

Apagón: A Night with 2+2=5? and Fichu - The Light of Havana

Apagón: A Night with 2+2=5? and Fichu — The Light of Havana RSVP
Thursday, May 7 | Long Weekend | 270 Columbus Ave.

In Cuba, an apagón is a blackout—a way of life navigated by resilience, community, and art made in the dark. On May 7th, Long Weekend invites you into the world of two of Havana's most vital visual voices.

Fabian Lopez — 2+2=5?
29-year-old Fabian Lopez has become one of the most internationally recognized street artists to emerge from Cuba. Known as "The Banksy of Havana," his balaclava-clad character Supermalo appears on nearly every street in Havana, asking the question at the heart of his work: if 2+2=5, something is wrong with the world—and we're choosing to ignore it. His murals address socio-political realities and the daily weight of life in Cuba. Often censored. Never wavering.

Fichu — Dennys Arroyo
From the heart of Old Havana, Fichu uses graffiti and muralism not as decoration, but as testimony. His white-eyed figures—mulatos with hollow gazes—are not ghosts. They are, in his words, "the hidden faces of a society that has not been able to look at itself in the mirror." Visceral, urgent, and deeply rooted in the streets where he grew up, Fichu paints so they don't forget.

Neither artist is able to leave Cuba. This evening is a bridge.

The evening features:
— Two short films, one on each artist, will screen inside La Gallería.
— A pre-recorded artist Q&A — and if the electricity holds in Havana, a live connection with the artists themselves
— Art and merch will be available for purchase; all proceeds go directly to 2+2=5? and Fichu.
Donation QR codes will be available at the venue for organizations providing relief to people in Cuba.

Come to see the art. Stay for the story.

Doors open at 5pm.
